Shahid Beheshti University formerly known as The National University of Iran (NUI) is one of the most prestigious universities in Iran. The university's name was changed during the cultural revolution in Iranian universities, 1980-82.
Shahid Beheshti University (SBU), established in 1959 (as National University of Iran), started its academic life in 1960 with 174 students in two faculties: Faculty of Architecture and Urban Planning, and Faculty of Banking and Economics. The first Master's course at SBU was offered in the Faculty of Architecture in 1961, while the first Ph.D. program was introduced in the Faculty of Economics in 1991.
Today, there are more than 70 programs at Master's and over 30 at Ph.D. levels. Development of new facilities in the main campus paved the way for increased academic activities, so that by 1978 several other faculties became active at SBU, e.g. Faculties of Literature and Human Sciences, Basic Sciences, Law, Earth Sciences, Statistics and Informatics and Education and Psychology.
SBU combines the tradition of a classical university with the dynamic character of a modern and interdisciplinary scientific enterprise. Since 1990, the university has placed more emphasis on postgraduate, in particular PhD, and research programs, while still aiming to enhance the quality of its well-established undergraduate courses.

Amirkabir University of Technology (AUT) (Persian: دانشگاه صنعتی امیرکبیر Dāneshgāh-e San'ati-ye Amirkabir), formerly called the Tehran Polytechnic,[3] is a public research university located in Tehran, Iran. AUT is one of the most prestigious universities and the first established technical university in Iran, referred to as "Mother of Industrial Universities".
The university was first founded by Habib Nafisi in 1958 and then developed by Dr. Mohammad Ali Mojtahedi, during the reign of the Pahlavi dynasty. Originally named the Tehran Polytechnic, it began its activities with five engineering departments. Six months before the victory of 1979 Iranian Revolution, Tehran Polytechnic was renamed after the famed Iranian prime minister Amir Kabir (1807–1852). With its expansion, the university now boasts fifteen science and engineering departments, and two other affiliated centers, located in Bandar Abbas and Mahshahr. There are currently around 9,100 students enrolled in the undergraduate and graduate programs. AUT has 480 full-time academic faculty members and 550 administrative employees. This gives AUT the highest staff-to-student ratio among the country's universities. The executive branch consists of four departments which receive active participation from various councils in planning and administering affairs.
